Crunching the numbers: Friday’s week 4 GAC South matchup between Timberland and Howell Central should be a great game. Timberland is woke. Timberland’s only loss on the season came in week 1 to quality big-school program Lafayette (which also then took down Hazelwood East in week 2). Timberland should not have lost the Lafayette game. The Wolves shot themselves in the paw 4 times, via drive killing INTs. Howell Central will have their work cut out for them against Timberland and their aggressive defense. The Spartan offense is rolling off an impressive 56 points/game, 505 yds/game. Match that up against Timberland’s defense, which has held opponents to 16.6 points/game. Timberland’s defensive leaders Ja’Von Hune (24 tackles) and Sam Jehle (22 tackles) will need to rally the troops and lock down Central’s Dontae Horace (126 yds/game rushing). Though focusing on Horace alone could be disaster. Central’s Keon Waters and QB Justin Pawlowski are rushing threats as well. As for Timberland’s offense, QB Cole Martin (343 yds passing, 4 TDs, 6 INTs) needs to make better decisions with the rock, don’t try to force completions into coverage. The multi threat Spartan offense should prevail. Prediction: Howell Central over Timberland 42-28.
